SFAA (STOREFRONT FOR ART
AND ARCHITECTURE)

Visual Identity
Storefront for Art and Architecture is a New York-based non-profit committed to advancing innovative and critical ideas in architecture, art, and the built environment. Known for its collapsible façade and its role as a platform for experimentation, sfaa blurs the boundaries between public and private, art and architecture, discourse and display.

CONCEPT & IDEA
The rebranding focuses on Storefront’s diverse history of critical debate, aiming to re-establish the institution as the leading space for experimental architecture.

APPROACH
I centered the design strategy on the institution’s provocative mission to 'challenge the boundaries of the built environment,' building a visual framework that is as adaptive and unconventional as the space itself.

The logo system uses an architectural bounding box mirroring the physical shifts of a storefront. The color palette merges the raw red brick of the built environment with a vibrant blue representing an experimental spirit, bridging industrial foundations with modernity.

VISUAL SYSTEMI developed a concept-driven visual system built around a custom typeface and modular elements that echo the space’s physical transformation. The new identity embraces impermanence and dialogue, inviting audiences to see sfaa not as a fixed institution but as an evolving storefront for civic imagination.
